Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing process. The micro-injuries trigger the release of cytokines and growth factors that lead to the remodeling of collagen and elastin. Microneedling, in other words, is collagen induction therapy.

It is great for patients who want to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, large pores and texture issues.

It is recommended to undergo a series of at least 3 treatments, separated by 4 weeks each, for optimal results.

Microneedling + PRP aka “Vampire facial” stimulates collagen which helps to tighten skin, improve texture, minimize pores, diminish scarring, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Immediately following your Microneedling treatment, we will apply your own PRP to the skin, which allows for deeper penetration and enhanced results.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is an ‘end’ product produced after your blood is drawn and prepared under centrifugation. PRP is rich in growth factors, stem cells, and white blood cells that help us build collagen and regenerate new cells.

Are all blood products the same?

  • We use an FDA approved platelet concentration system which provides platelet rich plasma (PRP) as an end product.

  • Stability of PRP versus PRF, 4 hours versus 6-8 min.

  • Clinical validation of PRP versus PRF.

Treatment areas: The most common areas to treat are the face, neck and décolleté. Your provider will apply a topical numbing agent to reduce any pain or discomfort during this procedure.

Contraindications: Microneedling cannot be done on an area with an active bacterial, viral or fungal infection. It is contraindicated in patients with active acne, skin related autoimmune disorders, rashes, warts, skin cancer, patients on anticoagulants, women who are pregnant or lactating, history of recent ablative dermal procedures, actinic keratosis, rosacea, diabetes, and keloid scars.

Before your appointment: For best results, it is beneficial to use a retinol product on your skin for 6 weeks prior to starting a microneedling series. However, you should avoid any retinol products on your skin for 3 days prior to your appointment.

During Treatment: Skin Pen creates millions of controlled microchannels in the skin. This jump starts the production of collagen and elastin and encourages the release of growth factors that recruit and increase reparative cells. The result is a cascade of healing processes that can continue for months following your treatment.

The SkinPen treatment lasts approximately 30 minutes. Depending on whether an anesthetic is used prior to treatment, your entire treatment session may last up to one hour- still plenty of time to schedule your treatment before work or during your lunch hour. Be sure to speak with your provider before you come to get an accurate estimate, so you know how to plan your visit.

After Treatment: Your skin may initially appear slightly pink to red, similar to a mild sunburn. This is normal and should subside within 24 to 72 hours. • Some people see rejuvenated skin after just one treatment, and results may continue to improve for three to six months following your last treatment.

Side effects, risks and possible complications: Side effects are minimal with this type of treatment and typically include minor flaking or dryness of the skin with scab formation in rare cases.
